Make Offer. I don’t have either and I’m interested in buying my first digital recorder. Besides hardware line recording, likeliest small recorder to actually slip into your pocket for out zoom h5 vs zoom h4n pro – none: about field recordings …. It includes feedback zooj the seller. Last one Last one Last one. Anyway, I guess the one thing I don’t know about that I’m asking the board is how much better the preamps are than the H4N, because ultimatley that will be what determines which route I go. Is there any difference between the Zoom H5 and H4n?

– Zoom H4n Pro Portable Handy Recorder | Location Sound & Filmmaking | Decibel Peak

Its predecessor, the Zoom H4n had a few more drawbacks. One of the main advantages of the Zoom H5 is that its integrated microphone capsule is shock-mounted to reduce handling noise. To save you some time, here are some commonly asked questions I keep hearing regarding the Zoom H4n Pro. If you have any further questions, feel free to use the comment section. However, you can only regulate the power output for the entire device, not for each individual preamp. By connecting your Zoom H4n Pro in audio interface mode, you can either use the integrated condenser microphones or connect any other microphone.

According to Zoom the H4n is much improved under the hood. They claim the overall sound is better. The pre-amps which were always a weakness of the earlier versions are said to be more natural sounding and cleaner. The XLR connections are now locking — another problem point with the earlier models. The only advantage of the H4n is the flexibility of overdubbing. The H4n allows repeated dubs from any input. Last edited by cunparis; 17th January at PM.. Reason: grammar. Sorry to resurrect an old thread but this is the only place I’ve found someone saying the H5 was more limited concerning overdubbing.

I’ve been searching for some details about this but I haven’t found anything. I don’t have either and I’m interested in buying my first digital recorder. Can you elaborate on how overdubbing works on the H5? For example if I record a guitar part and then I want to go back and record a fiddle solo on a separate track, can I do that?

Can I redo several takes and have them all saved so that I can choose the best one later? From what you wrote, if I record the guitar part on the first XLR input, then I want to record a fiddle solo with the same mic, I’d have to unplug it and plug it into the second XLR input?? What about using the built-in mics?

Can I record the guitar part with the built-in mics and then go back and record a fiddle track on a separate track using the built-in microphones? Thanks, Michael. My apologies. I have the H6 and have not used an H5 at all.

H5 users, please help. I picked up an h5 recently. True, I did some more research and discovered that the H5 and H6 have something more that matters to me a great deal: the Zoom H5 and the H6 can be used as external mixer for iOS. You can also hard pan instruments on the digitakt and multitrack with the left right out into the zoom, which is Handy.

Or if you run the digitakt in mono, plug that into the left of the zoom and in the right put an instrument of choice. Good luck! Is great bonus feature if record digitakt as I, sometimes jam out and go loud with big effects and is signal hot! This product is very good as a stand alone thing to record.. Good quality sound and all, simple to use ect..

I record acoustic guitar with it and i can get a good recording anywhere i go. The thing is, dont expect to get a good sound when using it as a audio interface.. Theres a significant loss of audio quality that way.. I tought there was a problem with my set up but no, it was confim by Zoom in the support. It should be mention, some people, like me are buying it to use as a audio interface.

Verified purchase: Yes Condition: new Sold by: audiobargain. This is a wonderful recorder you can take with you everywhere and quickly set up for when you need to capture the best sound quality for your dslr and or mirrorless set up. It is light in the hand, easy to use, and although I have not taken advantage of its full potential, I feel like I have an excellent tool in my arsenal now. It’s a bargain.

Highly recommended. Verified purchase: Yes Condition: new Sold by: watta-bargain. This is a superb recorder. Initially it is very easy to start making excellent recordings. With a little time there are many other useful recording options to learn.

I am a performer and music teacher. I have already used it for recording both performances and music lessons. The detachable microphone is a great feature. It is also easy to use with my external microphones. I highly recommend this product. Verified purchase: Yes Condition: new Sold by: 6ave. All of these units offer excellent sound, which is the name of the game, and that’s that. So far, it seems the H5 has lower self-noise than any other I own or have owned.

The only feature I’d like to see the manufacturers add is auto-off, or sleep mode, after a user-selected idle period.
